It is the responsibility of folk dance instructors to convey accurately the traditional structure, historical origins, and cultural values of dances. Understanding the geographical, cultural, and historical characteristics of the region from which a dance emerges, exploring its origin story when available, and becoming familiar with other folkloric elements of that region can enhance the quality and authenticity of performance.
This workshop addresses the dramatic structure underlying Zeybek dances—one of the traditional folk dance forms of Anatolia—together with individual improvisation, the cultural contexts in which these dances are performed, and the traditional learning model through which they are transmitted. The aim is to explore these elements and integrate them into dance performance
